I think that many of us share this problem..it's part of being anxious. I try to challenge myself to do things anyway so that I don't get to a place where I won't travel, or won't do stressful things because of a fear of insomnia, because I could see that being a vicious cycle. For example, I'm having a party this weekend, which is VERY unusual for me and is affecting my sleep. But darn it, I'm doing it anyway and I'm going to have fun because I won't let this thing control me.
Maybe a big thing like a job change isn't possible at the moment for you, but maybe small challenges. If you can use those challenges to get a grip on your anxious thinking, you can work up to the big stuff. Then you can make changes and accept the loss of sleep without making it so much worseby worrying that you can't function at all. That's my plan for myself anyway.
When I start thinking stressful thoughts about the party I replace them with thoughts of how fun it will be and get on with my day. Dealing with anxiety takes time and effort. But once you can manage it better, the sleep thing follows.
PS- maybe that wasn't the right job for you?
