Heaven knows why some Doctors give things like Effexor for Insomnia. They must be just clueless. The side-effects of SSRI's are known to cause Insomnia.
Fortunately,I have a very understanding Doctor
and he is willing to prescribe me Ambien and Ativan if I believe it helps. If taken as prescribed and only once a night I don't see a problem with it.Then when you get your sleep pattern back just cut the dosage down.
My Psychiatrists. They won't prescribe me Benzos but are willing to give me Ambien for long term use,but seeing as they are both benzos I see no difference;strange!.They seem to think that Benzos are associate with people becoming Alcoholics and taking a pack of valium a day  If taken in a controlled way they can be the best sleep meds currently available and denying people them and giving things like Risperdal and Effexor instead is just letting them suffer even more.
