I had always been dead set against antidepressants, I thought post-partum depression especially was really a made-up disease, I mean, I had had 2 kids prior to this last baby and my second one had multiple health problems which were life theatening, yet I did not have anxiety nor insomnia. After I had this baby, and she was healthy and our lives were perfect I was a basket case: I couldn't stop crying and it was like someone had injected andrenaline into my body, the anxiety was unbearable and the insomnia so severe it scared the heck out of me. I put up with the symptoms for 2 months, until I really couldn't continue like that. I know PPD is a very specific condition which responds very well to SSRI's and most of us moms have no choice but to bear with the initial side effects because what is the alternative? Being non-functional, anxious, depressed all the time is not good for the mom nor the babies. So that's why I stuck with my treatment despite the initial problems and even now that the PPD is long gone, I have no intention of quitting my AD, life is too short and precious, I never want to feel that way again. I just wanted to share this because I see many people suffering from severe anxiety and wanted to offer some hope. I know that everyone is different though and eventually we each have to make the choice that is best for us.....
