I'm so glad you posted this as I am dealing with a similar situation yet the SSRI (specifically Paxil) is not helping with my sleep at all althought it's supposed to me the most sedating anti-depressant.
Three months ago I started experiencing very severe insomnia that resulted immediately after I was taken to ER for a panic-like attack. I also lost my appetite and felt fatigued. After consulting two family doctors and running blood/urine tests, they suggested I go see a psychiatrist. The woman diagnosed me with panic disorder/depression although aside from lack of sleep and poor appetite my mood wasn't depressed. At any rate, I started taking Paxil and have been on it for almost 3 months and hasn't done anything for my insomnia. Since I was still not sleeping, she added trazodone to the Paxil and even though I sleep on it, it leaves me feel groggy. I tried to tell her that perhaps Paxil is not an optimal drug for me but she keeps insisting that with a trazodone combo I should be just fine. Do you think this is good advice since I got on SSRI to concur insomnia in the first place? Have you heard of other people either on Zoloft or Paxil who didn't get any relief from insomnia? I'm trying to decide if it is time to get another opinion.
