You know, it's interesting...I am about 80% recovered from this thing, and I have not made one single change in my behavior around sleep. I still go to bed at the same time as I did before the insomnia, get up at the same time, same exercise routine, same diet, etc. I still use earplugs and white noise, which I've always used. I did change my job, and I do take a bit of Remeron, but that's it. Before, I took Amitriptyline, so I've taken meds for sleep for a long time.
For me, I'm recognizing that my anxious thinking is a huge part of my insomnia, if not all of it. Last week I slept lousy because I had a party planned for Friday night, and since then, I've slept like a log. Even woke up this morning and had forgotten what day it was. That hasn't happened for a while.
My anxiety is not about sleep anymore, but about regular life events, as it always has been. I don't think I slept the night before the first day of school in my entire life. So I guess I can't expect to NEVER have bad nights. But since I've gotten a little bit of a handle on my thinking, it's really helped my sleep.
Good luck at the sleep clinic. It'll be interesting to hear what they have learned about sleep in the last 22 years.
