Hi, friends, Thanks so much for your responses. I went to the sleep clinic today. For starters, they did a quick check as to my general health, which is good. Then the sleep specialist and I had a long chat. He could see from the questionnaires that were filled out by me, that I had tried pretty much everything that is out there. He didn't sound too hopeful and said that insomnia of this kind was very difficult, but suggested that I schedule a night at the clinic, which is going to be on the 22nd of June. He felt that we needed to rule out a few things. Even though I feel it is all mental, learned negative behavior, loss of confidence that I can sleep, anxiety, etc. I am ready to spend a night hooked up like an octopus. He said that there might be some low depression, even though I don't feel that I am depressed. I am angry that I have this problem, but I don't believe I am depressed. I used to be very depressed, almost clinically depressed, many years ago, but who wouldn't be when night after night you don't get any rest. But who knows, he might have a point. He did speak of some fairly new medication which encourages the natural production of melatonin in the brain. I forget the name of it. But first, the sleep over and then another meeting. We'll then go from there.
I feel good that I have taken this step. Maybe something new and better, or even healing, will come of it.
I will continue to keep the same hours, and go for a good walk every day, maybe some swimming also, and meditate and ask myself before going to bed, what it is that I need to be anxious about. What do I gain from being anxious?! Nothing. It serves no purpose at all.
Breathing exercises also help. I have two bedrooms, and often I do musical beds in the middle of the night. Sometimes this works.
With insomnia, people have to have been there to understand.
Thanks to all for being here. More to come... Casablanca
