I agree. The more you tell yourself that you "must" sleep, the worse you will sleep. Accept that you might not sleep great and resolve to go and have fun anyway. Try to do some relaxation or thought-stopping the night before and then enjoy your tournament. That takes away insomnia's power. If you try to stay up the night before, you might STILL sleep badly and then you'll be going on two nights of little sleep.
I haven't slept well the night before an important event since I was a small child. But the less I worry about it, the better I sleep, and I still do okay and have fun. Those of us with anxious temperaments are prone to this problem.
