Oh Susan,

I have been struggling with this horrible condition for 14 1/2 years and it has been a constant struggle. I done the doctors, Sleep Specialists, herbs, health food store remedies, Shrinks, sleep hygiene to the point that I've had to jump through hoops.

Things began to turn around for me about three years ago, when I read in a book about melatonin, how important it is to your circadian rythems to exercise vigorously every day ( I mean working up a sweat) and exposing yourself to bright sunlight early in the day, everyday. These things increase serotonin in the brain. I began to see a change in about a month or so. These methods also helped me get up at the same time everday and it wasn't the torture it usually was. Also, John Wiedman's book and behavioral modification has helped a lot. Support and connecting with people with insomnia has helped me tremedously. People do much better with support and encouragement from others...something we don't get from "normies". We usually just get snickers and sarcastic remarks which lowers our self-esteem.

I still have insomnia, but it is much better and I am continuing to search for answers. I am very open minded to try other things. I have so far been in contact with three other individuals who have been completely cured of their insomnia by Neurologists who specialize in alternative treatments. These doctors ran tests that have actually found the underlying causes of their insomnia. One person was suffering from mercury posioning from the fillings of her teeth. She had them removed...no more insomnia. She was told by other doctors that her insomnia was caused by "mental" problems and stress. Her sleep doctor told her "So what, if you can't sleep, just get up and mop floors or read. It's not such a big deal". This woman had mercury posioning for God's sake. The two other women were suffering from severe serotonin deficiencies through blood tests and were given supplementation for this. Their lives have turned around. I had heard of no cures through the use of conventional doctors or sleep doctors.

I will definately keep looking as soon as my new insurance kicks in Januarary and these doctors are covered. I suggest everyone do the same. This is your life and no one elses and you only get one. Wouldn't it be nice to be completely cured? Maybe it is possible for some individuals, simply because there are alot of cause to insomnia, not just mental and behavoral problems. I think every aspect should be explored...behavoral, mental and physical.

Meg
