Yes, yes, and yes. Trazodone is an antidepressant but it doesn't work very well as that because it requires a high dose, and at that dose people tend to be really tired. So it is used as a sleep aid instead. I don't remember any bad side effects when I took it, but there are always potential ones. I quit taking it because I didn't want to take it every night, since some nights I could sleep without it, and when I took it variably it gave me headaches. Lots of other antidepressants are sedating-elavil, sinequan, and remeron are a few. For long term problems, antidepressants are much safer than other medicines, like ambien, xanax, etc.
