Posted by Geoff on December 11, 1999 at 12:52:34:I've been an insomniac for several years now but just recently found myself temporarily cured. Here's what happened:
Last October I flew to England (from Los Angeles) to stay with my Dad. He had just been diagnosed with lung cancer and didn't have long. The first night there, the jet lag really got to me and I only slept 4 or so hours. But the next night, I slept like a baby and woke up with the kind of energy and mental lucidity I used to have. It was really extraordinary. Not wanting to jinx myself, I reasoned it was the jet-lag somehow fixing my body clock. But I slept beautifully all the time I was there.
Now, when I returned to LA, I immediately shifted back into my insomnia-laden sleep mode, where I sleep lightly for 5 or 6 hours and feel like a zombie the rest of the day.
I can't quite put my finger on it. Was it the jet-lag that corrected my body clock? Was it being around my Dad who I hadn't seen in forever? Was it England? It's much cooler there as opposed to LA. Was it something else entirely?
I wish I could figure it out because I'm seriously considering moving at this point.
Any comments?
Geoff
