Recall the old saying about converts! They can be extraordinarily zealous.
Of course you are correct. There can a multitude of reasons why a person cannot sleep, ranging from physical to emotional, mixture of both, etc.
To come out with a blanket statement either way is dead wrong. To say that drugs are the only solution is just as wrongheaded as saying that they will never work.
Obviously the poster sought treatment for his particular insomnia and was successful. I think that's great. It certainly represents an option for those in similar circumstances. But to say it's the only way out automatically closes the door on other paths that may prove to be equally effective.
I also take an antidepressant for its sedative qualities, and sleep just fine. But I would never say that antidepressants are the only thing that others should take.
It's one of many options, and folks should be aware that it exists. I certainly wasn't, and it was prescribed not to help me sleep, not because I was depressed, but to help me deal with a totally unrelated problem. For me it was a case of serendipity.
