Janet,
I was on trazodone for about 4 weeks to battle my insomnia and to break the anxiety cycle. I also took 50 mg for the first time and couldn't function the next day - head in the clouds, groggy, etc. From that point on, I would take between 12.5-25 mg and the side effects were much less severe although in my case slight grogginess was still there. After 4 weeks I decided to stop taking it altogether and allow my body to sleep on its own (well, actually I am also taking paxil - 7 month treatment- for panic attacks and paxil is known to help insomnia). The first few nights after stopping were difficult but now I'm sleeping pretty normal - waking up 1-2 times a night but with an ability to fall back asleep.
