I've been taking approximately 75 mg of trazodone nightly for 2+ yrs and have had no side-effects whatsoever. There have been a couple of occasions when I took 100 mg and felt groggy the next day. So, I cut my 100 mg tabs to make 75 mg. I think for me it just takes the edge off and allows me to fall asleep. There have been times when it hasn't done the trick, which leads me to believe it's primarily psychological. Just knowing I'm taking something other than Ambien, which is cheaper, nonaddictive and relatively safe makes me feel better. Every now and then I resort to taking 5 mg of Ambien, but always feel defeated the next day. I hope some day soon to not have to take anything and rely solely on my body to fall asleep naturally. Until then, however, I'll continue to take the trazodone. You might want to give it a couple of days. If you're still feeling groggy, then maybe your doc can prescribe something else. Good luck!
