I don't know about the alpha, beta, theta stuff, but I believe that I am a "stumbler" too, and that I will probably always need Remeron or something like it to sleep (prior to this I was on Amitriptyline). My insomnia pattern was/is very similar to yours. I don't need it every night and I don't care if I need it forever. I'd rather sleep than stumble, and the Remeron helps me.
