In my case, I sleep great with Remeron. Some nights I can sleep without it, but often my sleep isn't deep without it. I have no grogginess or other side effects besides weight gain, and the sleep feels restful and wonderful. I've never taken sleep aids, so I can't judge them, but I vote yes on the medication issue. If it is working, then take it. If it isn't and it makes you feel lousy then don't. You have to also do some CBT and other lifestyle changes as well, though to make medication effective.
