what's getting me to sleep nowadays

Posted by scores375 on October 13, 2006 at 19:43:24:

Hi everyone

I've been looking through some the posts here and empathize with many of them deeply, since I have myself struggled with insomnia. I know that the people here have many different goals, including those who want to get off of their meds, and I suspect that i will be one of them some day, when I am ready. But this post isn't really about that.

For now its the short term, not the long term thats important to me: I want to sleep, almost at any cost, and I'm willign to take medications. I have so far found a combination of medications that puts me to sleep easily and effectively, and that may work for others in my situation.

I started out, like most people, with 50mg dyphenhydramine which worked for about a month until my tolerance for them was too high and I could no longer use them. My doctor then put me on 15mg Zopiclone, which worked most of the time, but I have still have experienced some insomnia on it. I then continued the 15mg Zopiclone and added 15 mg Remeron, and my insomnia completely went away. I can sleep almost right away, and I can stay asleep for as long as I like, anywhere from 8-13 hours, whatever I choose. Pretty good for someone who was getting 0-2 hours a night of sleep a year ago!

I am pretty sad about being dependent on various medications at such a young age (19) and I would like to quit them sometime, but for the meantime i feel that taking them is better than experiencing the hell of insomnia, and fearing bedtime.

I guess this message is mainly directed towards those of you who on zopiclone who find that you still experience periodic insomnia on the drug. For you all, I would consider asking your doctor about taking Remeron.

Remeron 15mg+ Zopiclone 15mg should put even some of the most hardcore insomniacs to bed

I know this message won't be helpful to most people here, but I hope that it is helpful to one or two people. A year ago, I would have done anything to get a night's sleep like I do now, even though it isn't through ideal means.
