Personally I think it's both. Remeron definitely increases the appetite, but I think it affects metabolism, too. My doctor says that many people find that Trazadone has a next day "hangover" that Remeron doesn't...everyone's body is different, so you can't really go by the experience of others. I didn't think I paid that much for the mirtazapine, but maybe so, I do have insurance. I know many, many people who take Trazadone and find it as effective as Remeron. May as well start with the cheaper one.
