Hi Wishful: Anxiety is the perpetuator of insomnia. Somehow, I finally got on top of it. What really made the lightbulb go off in my head were two posts: VinceD July 25 and Tom-N-Texas 7/27. Please read those two posts.
I understood the concept before, but somehow could not make it part of me. Their posts really helped, and Cairo's, mainly not to focus on the insomnia, feeding it, but go about your day as if it were a normal day. When I feel some anxiety, I just talk to myself. 1) Anxiety does not accomplish anything and is not helpful; 2) It's no big deal (do something that is fun for you when you cannot go to sleep instead of fretting); 3) doing breathing exercises and think of lots of things you are grateful for; 4) "It's ok if I don't go to sleep right away, I can always get up and do something fun. I know I'll go to sleep later on." I do the same thing when I wake up (which I still do, but I am not anxious and so can eventually go back to sleep.)
I hope this helps. Casablanca
