I have this, too, and I've decided that I most likely will NEVER sleep really well before a big event (for me, it's travel that really kicks it into gear, especially if I have to drive alone). I just tell myself that I probably won't get as much sleep as I'd like, that I've been successful even without getting enough sleep and that I'll sleep great the next night. I also tell myself that if it's THAT bad, I can always cancel the event.
I used to have huge fears (irrational ones, I might add) that I'd go away on a trip and get stranded wherever I was because I didn't sleep and couldn't drive home. Once I get where I'm going, I'm fine, so of course, that never happens. You just have to identify any irrational thoughts and fears and replace them with more rational thoughts. What are your SPECIFIC thoughts on these kinds of nights?
