I have had bad insomnia lately. I can fall asleep but I can't stay asleep.
A little background info: I am 25 years old, I have sleep apnea and use a cpap, I have depression and OCD. I have been on antidepressants for five years and got off them 9 weeks ago.
Some nights I am only getting 4 hours of sleep. It is affecting my life, contributing to depression/OCD. I am not sure the root of my insomnia. It's a nasty cycle, I can't sleep because I am depressed and I am depressed bc I can't sleep. I have has sleep studies done and it shows I have moderate apnea (which is treated with the c-pap) and my sleep architecture is "severely abnormal". So there is something else going on. My brain doesn't get deep sleep. It races as I am sleeping, so I get non restorative sleep.
I am discussing with my sleep doc going on sleeping medicine (probably Ambien). One problem with medicine like this is in the past I build a tolerance really quick and have to go to the top dosage and eventually it stops working. Do you think sleeping medicine is worth I shot? If so which one is most effective? Is there a hangover? I am probably going back on an anti depressant next week. I have chronic insomnia. It is worse now probably bc of the depression I am in but it is always there. From what I read sleeping medicine is only effective in the short term, is that true? This is something I will always battle. I tried Rozerem and it didn't help too much. I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks for your help,
Jeff
