Have you considered cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression? There are numerous studies that show its effectiveness is the same or better than medications. CBT was actually developed to treat depression.
To do this, you can either try to find a therapist who knows about CBT or start by reading books on it. Psychiatrists are medical doctors and their thing is prescribing medicine so you probably can't get CBT therapy from yours but she may refer you to a therapist.
David Burns "Feeling good" books apply CBT to general depression. "Say good night to insomnia" by Gregg Jacobs applies it to sleep problems.
I think it makes sense to apply CBT even if you are taking medication.
