Oh, so not true about the depression. I fought this issue with numerous doctors. I have had the same problem and I am a therapist, so I know the signs of depression and I ain't got it. Doctors tend to think this is a sign of depression but it's not necessarily true. It can also be anxiety, and it can be a biologically based sleep problem. Just because it responds to an antidepressant doesn't mean it is depression. This is one of my major irritants...ANXIETY is a more common cause of insomnia than depression. I'm pretty convinced that I have a biological sleep issue, perhaps related to a family history of mood disorders but not caused by depression per se. My sister and brother have the exact same sleep pattern.
However...I can't sleep well without medication, so I don't have good news to report in that area. If you are unable to use CBT to get a handle on the sleep issue, you may have to either find a med that can be taken during pregnancy at low doses or go without it. But it doesn't signal depression.
