I think CBT involves more than just positive thoughts. You have to listen to your automatic thoughts and challenge them rationally. For example, you may be thinking "if I don't sleep, I won't be able to function" or "if I don't sleep, I will get sick and die." But if you look back at what really has happened to you, when you sleep poorly, you feel miserable but you continue to function. And eventually your body gets the sleep rit needs.
This is not easy; it is certainly very hard for me. But it is helping me. It is paradoxical but realizing that I will keep on going even when I do not sleep well helps me to relax and sleep better.
