I believe the non-drowiness is caused by dependence on the medication AND by anxiety. I have experienced both. The brain starts to rely on the medication so it adjusts serotonin receptors and things in the brain to compensate for the medication it knows it will get. This is why medication has to be tapered off. I never felt drowsy while on medication and could stay up all night. Could not nap. Then when I was off the medication, the anxiety kept me awake. Increased cortisol and adrenaline keep you alert. It's a long road back to normal, but it can be done...I think...for most people anyway.
