I agree that the non-drowsiness is a consequence of the medication and anxiety. In all the years I was taking ambien, I never felt drowsy, even though I felt wretched and tired so much of the time.
When I stopped the ambien, it was rough for a few months, but I did slowly start to feel drowsy again. It was quite a relief--I thought my brain circuitry had been permanently altered after so many years on pills.
