Janet,

You've gone through some major losses, and I imagine it takes a
long time to get over them. I know when I was really depressed,
I fell asleep right away (something I can't do now), but woke up
very early everyday. I guess my point is that the body reacts to
stress in different ways, and I think those of us prone to
insomnia may be wired a little differently than others, maybe
more susceptible to anxiety and reacting to stress. Have you
seen a therapist? Maybe an anti-depressant would help.

Also, your list of possible causes of insomnia is something we've
all done, but it tends to exacerbate it because trying frantically
to figure out the cause creates anxiety. Don't change anything,
unless you're sure it's affecting your sleep. Read these boards,
they're full of life-changing advice. And be patient.
