I can sympathize with you because my problems first started about 6 years ago when I stayed at home with my 2-year-old twin boys and my 7-year-old daughter. My twins drove me a little crazy too. They wouldn't take naps during the day, yet wouldn't go to sleep very well at night either. I think it was that stress that caused me not to be able to sleep. Then I became worried about my insomnia, and that just fed the problem. I have to say, though, that Xanax did work well for me as a sleep aide. However, my doctor wouldn't prescribe it for longer than two weeks for me. Then, Ambien worked for me at first, but became less and less effective over time. What finally did help me was Remeron. I took a half a tablet(7.5 mgs) about an hour before bed. It did leave me feeling very lethargic at first, but that became better with time. After a month or so, I was able to wean off of it and sleep on my own most of the time. I still take Ambien and Remeron occasionally, as I haven't been able to completely shake these sleep problems. However, I am much better these days than I was back then.
