My only problem with that book is the 6 week time frame stated in the title. In my experience, it takes months if not years to get back on track, especially after years of insomnia like you've had. I think the 6 week thing is misleading and that you can only expect to make PROGRESS in 6 weeks, not be cured.
You have to expect ups and downs in recovery from insomnia. Once you accept that you will have ups and downs, they don't bother you so much and you don't lose your confidence in every bad stretch. Chances are good that you will ALWAYS have a "shaky sleep system" and can expect rough periods to come every so often, for various reasons.
So for me, getting my expectations in line with reality really helped me a lot. I still have bad stretches, but I just don't worry about them anymore, I know they will pass. Sometimes I take Remeron to get through them, sometimes I don't. But I just no worry that they mean I'm on the path back to chronic insomnia, because I know that isn't true. My sleep is easily disrupted and that it what it is.
