Thanks for the polite reply. Just want to double check with you that it isn't drug dependency in some sort.
You say that the insomnia started after taking sudafed. This drug will definitely alter your awake/sleep cycle and would probably have caused a change in your pattern. Most drugs have a certain effect on sleep and sudafed is a classic example of this.
I used to have rebound insomnia weeks after I had taken pills. In my experience the body is so terribly sensitive and past drug use can effect its ability to work properly when you are ill, stressed, premenstrual etc.
What I am trying to say is that sleeping pill usage can effect the body months after. My drug rehabilitation counsillor tells me that they talk of decades in which the body repairs itslef fully after use. I smirked when she told me that 3 years ago but I don't think she was completely off.
I'm just trying to make sure that you don't totally rule out the havoc that drug usage past or present can have on your bodies ability to sleep.
I would definitely follow the hormone angle up. It is very common for people to lose the ability to sleep with hormonal change. The sweats go hand in hand with this theory.
I would also have your minreal levels checked just to see whether your magnesium and zinc are high enough. I supplemented with what I thought to be quality magnesium and it did nothing for my low level magnesium.

Perhaps your problem sleeping is a bit of both psychological and pyhsical: the stress from a terribly difficult time and an altered sleep cycle through drugs.
