Casablanca,
I can appreciate how you're feeling, because I've been there, too. It's pretty miserable. I know I'm probably sounding like a broken record, but the thing that helps me the most is listening to books on tape--NOT relaxation tapes but just recorded books. I just lie there and concentrate on and enjoy the biography, or novel, or whatever.

When I don't do this, my mind races around, and I have to concentrate on thinking positive thoughts and not thinking about upsetting things, and relaxing, etc. With the books on CD or tape, I don't have do to any of that--I just listen. And because I'm not so anxious, sooner or later, I fall asleep. Of course, there are bad nights when I don't sleep much, but this approach does help keep me from spiraling down into desperate, hopeless thoughts.

Go to the library and get some stuff you will enjoy! Good luck!
Sova
