I started on Desyrel (Trazadone) at a similar doseage as what you're taking, but over time my doctor had to continue increasing the doseage in order for it to achieve the same results. By the time I stopped taking it, I was either taking 175 or 200mg.

I am opposed to taking any anti-depressants since it would seem they were the root cause of this problem in the first place.

I've ceased taking any medication, including diphenhydramine in the hopes of allowing my body to detox - I'm not even drinking any alcohol during this period.

As for my sleep patterns, they've been inconsistent over the years because I've always just taken the medication whenever I wanted to go to sleep.

Now, I'm trying a regimen of strenuous physical exercise in the evenings, followed by a period of relaxation and foot massages. Afterwards I try to lay in bed with the hopes of falling asleep.

I do have an over-active mind and therefore listening to relaxing music doesn't help - I end up counting beats, sounds or other silly stuff. I know there's a certain element of tension because I tend to clench my teeth as well.

I want to get off all medication stop relying on sleep aids because I feel that it's affecting my ability to focus during the day and when I'm trying to study. Not to mention the concerns I have regarding such long-term useage - even diphenhydramine.
