you're subconscious has forgotten how to sleep. You're not relying on your own ability to fall asleep.

You can't expect to just tire yourself out to the point that you fall asleep. This might work if you're a fairly normal sleeper. But I think you're way past that.

Does your mind race at night??? Or do you feel physically tense?? Are you unable to switch off?
Are you depressed? experiencing anxiety??

There are so many factors that contribute to insomnia. I think it's going to be a har slog, but you need to start taking serious action to get your sleep back to normal. For one you need to stop drinking so much.

Drinking affects the quality of sleep you attain. It might help knock you out but you probably won't enter the deeper stages of sleep. You probably wake feeling groggy too.

Anyway this is getting way too long and I'm losing track of what I've said. Sleep can't be forced with the conscious mind. It's just suppose to happen. First step is to change your life style and learn to relax. I don't mean just sit in front of the telly. Try meditation.

Insomnia can be beaten. I did. Hang in there...
