Hey Casablanca,
Hope you're doing well. Well to be honest I've had a pretty $%$#% up childhood. Went through depression and much much worse (would rather not get into).
But I kinda snapped and I said to myself 'Enough is enough! -I'm in control, I can choose my thoughts, my emotions etc' Slowly I dug myself out. By the way I never took anti-depressants or prescribed sleeping pills, just other the counter stuff.
That was the major turning point, I started trying other things. Self help books (not just about sleep). I got my mind strong, fit and healthy, got into doing things. Stopped all the needless worrying.
Realised all the stress and worry was really bad for my health and that I had a choice. Stopped relying on pills, other people etc. That's unfortunately why people suffer to no end. They rely on quick fixes. 6 second abs, quick diet plans, all this crap.
Life is what you make of it...no matter what happended to you or whatever pains, guilt you're going through now. You have to truly accept yourslef wholeheartedly.
Yeah sure everyone can say 'I'll try and be positive' or 'I can, but it's not working'
You have to see this as a project for your mind, body and spirit. No ones against you...only person that is agianst you is yourself (if you let it be).
You have to work and strive to be the person you want to be. The rest will fall into place. I know that sounds heavy but why do you think there's so many people out there suffering from deppression, stress and insomnia etc?
You can choose your thoughts, your emotions, your habits and change your character and essentially change your destiny. We all have the strength within us. Although sometimes we feel that we don't.
Trust me I went through absolute hell...(even attempted suicide). If I can do it...you can :)
Believe 100% remove all doubt. Come back to positive frame of mind or thought when you slide. Eventually it'll become natural...eventually it will become you...we all have the ability to change. We have an unlimited chance to redeem ourselves.
Lack of self esteem, confidence, strengh...all these thoughts are really what you percieve are other people's thoughts of you. Find a self that you're happy with.
It takes work...but doesn't become a pro-footballer take work? doesn't becoming a masterchef take work??? years of work even. Conquering insomnia is a doddle compared to launching a space shuttle into space or nuclear physics.
The hurdles you create are in your mind only...
