From your post, it's pretty clear that you are really anxious about sleeping, as are most of us here, and that is making your insomnia worse. Some suggestions:
Read through this forum and see how other people have coped with severe insomnia but continued to live their life and eventually got better. You can do it too.
Do some reading and apply the suggestions. I suggest the books "Say good night to insomnia" by Gregg Jacobs and "Full catastrophe living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Minimize the use of ambien and other sleep medicines. For most people, they stop working after a while but can make your insomnia worse when you try to stop taking them. If you can reduce your anxiety, you will sleep and the quality of your sleep will improve and be better than what you get with medicine.
