I know you probably don't want to hear this, but 9 1/2 to 10 hours is way too long to spend in bed. Your sleep is fragmented because your body has rested for a long period of time, even though your brain may not have been asleep. When you wake up between 5-8 am, try getting up (and staying up) instead of laying there for another 2-5 hours. Those hours are unproductive anyway. I bet if you do this for a week you will see an improvement in the quality of your sleep. Also, you have to stop obsessing over this. When you talk about how you "try" to sleep and "can't" sleep, that tells me you're trying to force it and that's the exact opposite of what you should be doing. You can't make sleep happen, you have to LET it happen. Have you read any of Tom-N-Texas' posts? He has some good advice about being honest with yourself, admitting that you're over-researching the issue, driving yourself crazy trying to find the solution, changing your life for insomnia and using all kinds of tricks and gimmicks to sleep. You have to throw all that out the window and get back to who you were before this started. This may sound harsh but I wouldn't say it if I hadn't been where you are (which I have). You have the power to heal yourself but it has to start with being honest with yourself. I only wish someone had told me that sooner.
