Ive been taking a regimen of valerian and melatonin to help me sleep. .Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt... Yesterday I had been researching on some insomnia forums and came across two over the counter substances that I know you guys know about, but were new to me.. They are Diphenhydramine and Doxylamine. I took the second one last night, and believe it or not, I slept! I had to wake before I normally would to go to the physical, and I will say that it zoned me out pretty good such that when I got home and went online, I felt so groggy I had to lay down.. Thats a next-day effect I could live without, but its really nice to have another sleep option available to me..

Between the two, Diphenhydramine and Doxylamine , does anybody know if theres any real difference either in effectiveness or effect? It seems that most of the products over the counter come with either one or the other, and alot of them come with both.. not in the same pkg, of course, but , for instance, you can buy 2 different kinds of Unisom: one with the one and one with the other. Same with CVS' own product: it can be had with either one or the other.

So, is there a real difference? Anybody know, or have experience with both?
