Posted by Poppy on January 28, 2008 at 17:13:13:Hi, I'm new and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice for dealing with my doctor.
I started having trouble sleeping when I was 4 but it only started to interfere with my life a couple of years ago. I have no social life as I'm too exhausted to do anything and I'm on the verge of official action at uni as I've already had 2 warnings about my attendance.
I have 4 alarms but still sleep in most days, when I do get up I have regular headaches and feel tired and weak so I often don't last a whole day. I used to be happy and ambitious, I have so many things I want to do but I just can't manage them. I've tried to talk to my family and the few friends I have left, but no one understands and I get really upset when they say stupid things like "get up early so that you're tired and you fall asleep earlier". They don't understand that it doesn't work like that and one person actually said that she thinks I'm doing it deliberately to get attention. As if anyone would put themselves through this by choice!
I went to the doctor last year as a last resort after I ran out of things to try. She didn't listen to me and I don't think she took me seriously at all. I've seen her since and she was no more helpful about it. I feel like my body is giving up and I'm sure it's a matter of weeks before my place at university is in jeopardy. How can I get through to her before it's too late?
