has anyone used amitriptyline?

I have posted my whole story before, but for now I'll just say that I have been taking ambien for about 7 months but want to get off of it like many of you (no crazy side effects just know my brain is relying on it). I have had a sleep study done which showed several things including that I don't go into restorative sleep(stage 4), thus having some joint pains, malaise, and other annoying symtoms. I have finally been seeing a specialist in auto-immune disorders who can piece together my symptoms from the last 6 years. Has anyone tried amitriptyline in low doses for their insomnia and sleep quality and if so, have had any success? The goal is definitely to get off all of it, but for now, wondering about this drug.
