Posted by Sean on June 27, 2008 at 06:51:31:I notice very few postings about success with CBT here. I suppose people who find success move on and don't post much. Are there any sleep onset insomniacs out there who legitimately practiced this and found that it worked as advertised?
I'm in the middle of a relapse that started two weeks ago. I initially overcame a year-long bout with conditioned insomnia back in 2001 with the help of Wiedman's book and sleep restriction. It came very easy for me back then, but not so easy now, even with all the additional CBT components from "Say Good Night to Insomnia" . I am extremely disciplined and have given myself 5.5 hrs per night, out of bed 6am every morning. Back then when I did this the anxiety was no match for the sleep pressure and I consistently slept most nights until the anxiety melted away. Now I find myself sleeping every other to every third day right through to the alarm. On the other days, virtually nothing. For almost two weeks it has been consistently like this.
I've seen some indications on this forum (looking for ZZZ?) that it took a while to see improvement with CBT but that it was ultimately successful. I don't want to give up trying with two weeks invested in this. Are there any success stories out there want to chime in and give me some encouragement?
