Suzi: You're not headed into a downward spiral. Your body is just doing whatever it feels like doing (responding to some stimulus that sets off the insomnia). Just let it, and keep taking the Remeron if you're comfortable with that. You've had a good experience for the last few months, and that's not about to be overthrown by these last few days. Maybe you could ask your partner not to use such dire or pejorative terms as "pit of despair," since it's negative conditioning. Your preoccupation with having good sleep is not sleep obsessing (except to those who don't understand what it's like to experience insomnia).
