Hi - I am new to posting here. My wife has been going through a rough time with insomnia over the past 4 months. She has tried several meds, spoken with several docs, and just can't seem to break the cycle. She has read Say Goodnight to Insomnia and is currently seeing a CBT therapist (1st real session is today).

My question is around Remeron. She was prescribed 7.5 mg and started taking it 2 nights ago. The first night she slept 8 hours for the first time in 4 months. However, she did experience the normal grogginess, and her own anxiety coupled with the side effects = a pretty stressful day for her. Needless to say, last night, on the same dose, she may have gotten 1-2 hours.

She is pretty down about it, because the first night there was so much promise.

Herein lies my question - can her anxiety (either about sleep , the meds, or anything for that matter) be enough to counteract the Remeron and make it ineffective? I think she was pretty relaxed the first night, because she *believed* the Remeron would make a difference. I am wondering if she would've been able to accept the side effects and have a more positive thinking day yesteraday if that would have allowed the Remeron to continue to be effective?

She believes in her heart that CBT is the way out of this ultimately, but she needs some help to get there. Thanks for any feedback.
