Rebound Insomnia?

Posted by ptownrl on July 02, 2008 at 14:24:58:

Hello all...

I have a quick question regarding rebound insomnia. I've been struggling with my sleep for about 8 months now, and about 5 months ago turned to various meds. I take ambien a few nights a week, and ativan a few nights a week. I still definitely have anxiety around sleep, but feel like it is much, much less than it was. However, last night I went without any drugs in my system, and just could not fall asleep. I finally broke down around 2am and took part of an ambien. I can't tell if this is my own anxiety, or it is an actual physical reaction my body is having to lack of the meds its been accustomed to?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated by those of you who have gone through this. How long does rebound insomnia last, and how do I deal with the anxiety it brings without raising my overall anxiety...rebound insomnia or not?

Thanks everyone for being so supportive...
