help with answer to a question

Posted by sleepymom on December 04, 2008 at 07:21:56:

I am just wondering what this is called. I lie down some nights, usually a few nights each week. I do my deep breathing because the sleep restriction thing doesn't work for me so I simply lie in bed doing deep breathing. The lights are out and the house is dark. I start to drift and believe that I do go into a very light sleep, but I can still hear everything around me. I can feel my body do the Morrow reflex and I jump. I seem to lose track of time, but yet I am still keeping track insome ways, such as when I do some out of this dozing stage I tend to hunt for the clock. In the morning, I awaken basically refreshed but a bit anxious thinking that I laid there for several hours in bed and think I am not getting sleep until late. Does anyone else have this kappen? Am I actually in a light stage of sleep? I feel as if I am watching myself and waiting to fall asleep. I must at some point because I always awaken with the alarm clock and lose track of time but I feel for those hours as if I am sort of awake, just lying there doing deep breathing. I don't know if I have explained this properly but I think I am getting sleep because I do awaken fairly refreshed. Any insight would be helpful. I am actually afraid to do sleep restriction for fear that I will wait until late to get into bed, say 2-3am and then lie there doing deep breathing as I do from around 12am on and will never get sleep. HELP!! I am a bit confused about what I am doing and if I am doing something wrong for my sleep.
