Ambien side effects - how long?

Posted by asterix on November 07, 2008 at 16:11:12:

I have taken Ambien off and on for several years. Recently I had an illness that caused sleep disturbance and I took it several times a week. I have had trouble getting off the Ambien for several reasons, but mostly because Ambien produced the side effect of anxiety which has made my insomnia much worse. As I try to go to sleep I am fearful that I will not sleep, which causes an anxiety attach and the very sleeplessness I am afraid of.

I'm going cold turkey and am one night into it. last night I slept 0 hours, but I got up with less anxiety this morning than when I have taken Ambien.

My question is, how long before the side effects of Ambien wear off? How many nights before my anxiety level returns to normal?

Is there anyone out there with similar experience who can comment?
