I was thinking about your post (ooops, there goes my overactive mind again). I hadn't thought about it yesterday when I responded, but it occured to me that I had another experience much like you describe.
Several years ago I had a very upsetting turn of events, which affected me profoundly. At that point I didn't respond with insomnia, but I was deeply troubled nontetheless. I went to a cognative specialist, and after 5 months of very hard work, it did nothing to reduce my symptoms. I remember thinking after I got through that, cognative interventions are extremely effective for a lot of things, but for the deep and profound issues that come up, a deeper type of healing is needed (at least for me). My upset was beyond words and beyond thought, it just was.
Take care.
