Hi,
The insomnia I experienced did result from a trauma/grief. It was pretty intense and long lasting-I was put on Remeron, and that has worked really well for me, along with CBT for my irrational thinking about sleep.

Since caring for 2 dying parents, I had periods of pretty high anxiety about sleep, mixed with periods with less anxiety. My sleep did not necessarily match my anxiety level, I might sleep OK (which was 4 hours a night) when I was very anxious, and sleep 2 hours when I didn't feel anxious at all.

The strange part for me was that when my sleep was at it's worst, my surface anxiety could be barely perceptable, but there was a deep unease that prevented me from sleeping.
