mental illness, and sleep

Posted by sudani on March 16, 2009 at 21:28:06:

Hi everyone out there,
This is my second time posting, i have been suffering from Schizophrenia for 14yrs. now. I think the illness is what started my long bout of insomnia. I used to be a good sleeper, in my early teens, until i crashed at 15yrs. with the illness. I've searched all over the internet for answers, and it seems there is no answer to people with sleep issues, suffering from mental illness, except a change of meds. Alot of us are overweight, smoke, and have trouble sleeping. I have literally tried all the meds, exercise, sleep-hygiene, natural meds, over the counter, sleep labs, etc.. I've read alot of posts here, but no one in relation to me. I feel very lonely, sad, frustrated, angry, bitter, and so forth. I am currently on seroquel and risperdal. I have tried more aggressive antipsychotics , but nothing. It feels like i have to live this way until my 40's or god forbid 50's. It seems like there's no answer to my problem. Iam a very cool, calm person. I dont get anxious, or worry when i sleep. I just cant fall asleep, or stay asleep. If i do sleep, its a very light sleep. I am a Muslim, and i do believe in the hereafter. So, i am hopeful this will pass, if god accepts my prayers. Iam on Sleepnet, everyday, reading posts, and it does provide some relief, from this nightmare, that i live everyday. thanks for reading. So, please any comments, suggestions, feedback, is welcome, . Thanks for reading, and i will try and post again.
