Something to think about

Just to give you a little background. I, like alot of people on this board, never had a sleep issue before. I could sleep a full 8 hrs on most nights. And if I didn't get much sleep one night, no problem, I could make it up the next night. This changed for me during a health scare. And although the scare is over, I became aware that on some nights I could get little sleep.

I don't think of myself suffering from insomnia, I think of myself having anxiety issue associated with sleeping. I have been experiencing this issue for approximately 7 months. And although I think I am in much better shape, I still get those 1-2 hrs of sleep some night.

I think what really helped me was that if I do get some sleepless night(s), the thing that I always think of is that I will recover from this and sleep well very soon. It has happened numerous time before and it will happen again. Yes, having confidence that I will sleep again is the key for me. I can't seem to pinpoint why one night I might get only 1-2 hrs of sleep, I just accept it. I now don't obsess about sleep anymore. I might think of it as it gets closer to bedtime, but it doesn't occupy my mind alot.

I think I have gotten better over these months as I have accepted the fact that on some nights I might not get a good night sleep, but I know that the next night (or the next night after that), I will sleep again.
