There are all wonderful comments, and I'm grateful so many have shared their ways of coping with being awake during the witching hours. I've discovered that if I feel I'm heading into a night where I'll be awake for most or all of it, my attitude at the outset makes a difference to how my body feels the next day. If I accept it and say, "okay, I'll be awake the whole night, and that's just fine," I feel calm, rested, and relaxed during the night. A real sense of lightness about it. There's also no muscle stiffness and less fatigue the next day because I'm no longer resenting that I'm awake. And my hear feels clear. (And of course, the first time that I adopted this attitude was the first time that I slept in the middle of the night, from 11:30 to 4AM!!)
