Thanks, optimistic. No, I have not asked him, and I don't need to. I know he believes insomnia is a difficult condition, but not lethal. He's fairly unconcerned about my insomnia. If I did ask him, I expect he would entertain the idea and offer me his brand of quirky contemplation along the lines of, "Well, I suppose if persistent insomnia led to depression, and you were prone to suicidal ideation, then it might lead to death." Expressed, of course, with irony.
